The Conn Smythe Trophy is ultimately the MVP of the NHL Playoffs. Only 52 players have won the award in NHL history. Patrick Roy is the only three-time winner, and five greats have won the trophy twice in their careers.
The greats include Bobby Orr, Bernie Parent, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Sidney Crosby.
Connor McDavid would fit this list. But he'll need his first one before he can get his second one.
His odds are astounding, especially since we're headed into a Game 7 of the Stanley Cup tonight. He's currently the overwhelming favorite to win the award, and his team might not even win the Stanley Cup. So that begs the question, can anyone catch Connor McDavid for the Con Smythe Trophy tonight?

There are certainly folks out there who insist that the Conn Smythe Trophy should go to the best player of the championship team.
However, when you've got stats like Connor McDavid, you've got to make an exception.
McDavid has earned 34 assists and has 42 points this postseason. That's fourth all-time behind Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux.
Still, the last time a player from the losing team won the award was in 2003. Jean Sebastien Giguere won it in 2003, despite the Mighty Ducks not winning it all.
That said, statistically, Connor McDavid is clearly the most valuable player in the playoffs. But as we know from the NBA Finals, the sportsbook odds are sometimes very far from the actual voting.

If Barkov lifts Florida with a hat trick tonight, then maybe you'd have to consider Barkov over McDavid. That's ultimately one of the few exceptions.

In 11 games in the playoffs, Sebastian Aho has four goals and eight assists in 11 games played. That's more than one point per game in the playoffs.
