NHL Playoff Picture: Can Calgary Flames Still Make Stanley Cup Playoffs With Late Push?
There are only four games left in the Calgary Flames' season, unless they can rally and catch either St. Louis or Minnesota in the Western Conference's two Wild Card seeds. Currently, the Flames have 88 points, meaning they'll need to likely win all of their remaining games to make the playoffs.
NHL handicapper Matt MacKay has updated odds for Calgary to make or miss the playoffs. He'll offer his analysis on potential clinching scenarios for the Flames, who play the Minnesota Wild at home in a high-stakes game on Friday night.

NHL Playoff Picture: Calgary Flames Playoff Scenarios
The Flames have managed to grab at least one point in four straight games, going 2-0-2, with a pair of overtime losses against Vegas and Anaheim. Calgary blew a 3-1 lead in the 3rd period to the Ducks in their last outing, missing out on a pivotal point due to their overtime loss.
Calgary gets a chance at redemption tonight as home underdogs against a reloaded Wild roster. Minnesota now has its star players back in the lineup and they recently scored eight goals in an 8-7 win over San Jose.
The Flames are a quality defensive team that prefer to grind out wins 3-2 or 4-3. Calgary's only regulation loss in April came on the road against Utah. They've gone to overtime in six of their last 10 games played. However, with five points separating them from the Wild and Blues, the Flames need to finish their season with wins instead of overtime losses.
A win over the Wild at home on Friday night would put the Flames into a much better position to make the playoffs. If they can achieve this in regulation, that's the goal, since it'd prevent Minnesota from gaining a point, resulting in a three-point deficit at 93-90.
Fortunately for Calgary, the underdog has won three straight games outright between these teams when played at Scotiabank Saddledome. The Flames are 2-0 SU against the Wild this season, beating them once in regulation and once in a shootout.
If Calgary gets past Minnesota with a win, they'll have a layup against San Jose. Then, it's two tough matchups to close out the season against Vegas and Los Angeles. The Flames do benefit from these two contenders already qualifying for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, which could lead to less desperation and motivation in comparison to Calgary.
At 7-1 odds, we can sprinkle half a unit to grab 3.5 units of profit if Calgary wins three of its final four games to close out the regular season. It all hinges on how the Flames play at home as underdogs against a healthier Wild lineup. A win will shorten these odds from 7-1 to 4-1 or less.
