Today’s Best Bets from Steve Ryder
This looks a competitive 0-85 handicap but preference goes to MANARA (best priced at 6/1) who is unbeaten in her three starts in handicaps. The daughter of Camelot has progressed with each start over a slighter longer distance starting with a victory at Chelmsford off an opening mark of 54. She has won twice since at Wolverhampton, the first by five lengths off a mark of 60 and most recently in January when beating Patrol by 1 ¾ lengths off a mark of 71.
The handicapper has raised Manara 7lbs for that victory but the form of that has been boosted by the winner Patrol winning twice since including off a 7lb higher mark yesterday. That should mean that she remains well handicapped and can complete a four-timer.
14:57 Redcar
The switch back to turf should be no inconvenience for PALLAS LORD (best priced at 11/2) who has won his only other start at this course in 2022. That victory was actually in a division of this handicap where he won by ½ length off a mark of 63. The Donald Whillans trained seven-year-old struggled on the AW at the start of winter but has recently bounced back to form in emphatic style.
Pallas Lord won at Newcastle off marks of 57 and 61 before being narrowly beaten by a head on his previous two starts at that track off marks of 65 and 66. Now off only 1lb higher, he should run well with four places on offer.
