We look at the five most popular bets through oddschecker this week for the 2025 Masters, which gets underway at Augusta today.
Masters 2025
There's a wide open betting market for the first golf major of the year, with no player taking more than a 10% share of the bets through oddschecker since the start of the week.
The man in the spotlight is - of course - Rory McIlroy, who bids to end an 11-year wait for a major and the final piece of the Grand Slam puzzle at the 2025 Masters.
Masters Tips 2025: Five Most Popular Bets
Rory McIlroy
It's that man McIlroy who tops our most backed list with an 8.7% share of the bets. The 35-year-old has divided the golf team at oddschecker - Niall Lyons thinks he's the man to beat but the price is too skinny, while Ginger Joe is adamant McIlroy is one of the players to avoid because of his shot shape with the irons and a mental block at Augusta.
Scottie Scheffler
The only man with a shorter price than McIlroy is Scottie Scheffler (best price 11/2), the second most popular player with the oddschecker community. The world number one has taken 5.6% of the bets as he looks to become just the fourth player to win back-to-back Masters.
He won by three shots last year and had third spot a further four shots back so he is very much a worthy favourite this week. His putting is the only part of his game ever criticised but given he hits more greens in regulation than most he is likely to miss more putts than others too.
Ludvig Aberg
The number one selection for Ginger Joe comes third on our most backed list. Ludvig Aberg (4.9%) has skyrocketed up to world number five in just two years of PGA Tour Golf and also has two titles on his resume already.
We haven’t seen a debutant win at Augusta since Fuzzy Zoeller back in 1979 but Aberg came ever so close last year finishing second to Scheffler.
The oddschecker opinion on Aberg is backed up by the betting activity on bet365 - Aberg has taken more than 6% of the bets through the bookmaker, second to McIlroy (12%).
Collin Morikawa
Fourth on the list is the top pick for Niall Lyons, who has sided with Collin Morikawa (4.5%) after much contemplation in the last few weeks.
The conundrum is that Morikawa's last win in the United States came more than four years ago. He has notched a DP World Tour Championship, an Open Championship and the Zozo since then but a win remains elusive on home turf.
On the other side, though, Morikawa is one of the best iron players of his generation and maybe that's enough for him to elevate himself to have a hall of fame type career.
Jon Rahm
Rounding out the list is 2023 champion Jon Rahm (4.2% backed), another selection for Niall Lyons - more than 40 points in profit for 2025.
He hits the right shot shape, he knows how to manage the contours of the course and he enters this year’s event at slightly bigger odds than what he was last year as defending champion in much the same form.
His finishes this year read 2-6-6-5-9 and although you can criticise the lack of a win he is remarkably consistent. Consistency is also a hallmark of his Augusta record, having made all eight cuts with four other top 10 finishes outside his victory in 2023.
