One runner has distanced himself from the pack going into the 2025 Grand National at Aintree.
For much of the last few weeks, pinpointing the likeliest winner of the 2025 Grand National has been anything but straightforward.
Throughout the week, we've had up to seven horses split by just a couple of betting points at best prices across the oddschecker grid.
However, in the last 24 hours one of the leading runners has separated himself from the rest of the field - last year's winner is now 6/1 shortest price for the main event on Day 3 at Aintree having been 9/1 with some bookmakers at the declaration stage on Thursday morning.
There is now a range of 7/1 to 18/1 across those same seven horses (I Am Maximus, Iroko, Perceval Legallois, Stumptown, Hewick, Intense Raffles and Vanillier), while Minella Cocooner has snuck into the leading group at 14/1 (shortest 12/1).

Stumptown emerged as the top choice among the oddschecker community last weekend, attracting nearly 10% of all bets in the winner market (Vanillier next with 7.5%).
Stumptown (8%) and Vanillier (7.6) - Steve Ryder's ante-post selection - were the most backed horses from Monday through to declarations on Thursday, with Perceval Legallois third (6.1%).
I Am Maximus has then taken over from the declaration stage through to 9am on race morning, taking 9% of the bets through oddschecker (Stumptown second most backed with 7%). Vanillier is the only other with a greater than 5% share since 10am on Thursday.
Who is the favourite for the 2025 Grand National?
I Am Maximus is the favourite with the bookmakers to win the 2025 Grand National at 7/1 on BetMGM.
The nine-year-old (top weight 11st 12), trained by Willie Mullins and with star jockey Paul Townend on board, comes in with form figures of 311-P8.
Similar to last season, he placed poorly at Leopardstown in Grade 1 races over Christmas and at the Dublin Racing Festival. He missed his preparation run in the Bobbyjo Chase, which he won last year, due to a respiratory infection.

What time is the 2025 Grand National?
The 2025 Grand National will take place at 4:00 PM today (Saturday 5th April).
In recent years, the ‘world’s most famous race’ at Aintree has undergone several changes. Until 2023, the event permitted up to 40 runners, but this has been reduced to a final field of 34 to enhance safety for jockeys and horses alike.
The fences have been modified, the race distance slightly trimmed and the prize fund increased, leading to higher-calibre horses claiming victory in recent editions.
