For the UFC's Featherweight title, Alexander Volkanovski will battle Diego Lopes at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.
Neither Volkanovski nor Diego Lopes currently holds the title. The Featherweight belt has been vacant since Ilia Topuria switched to lightweight.
The UFC recently ruled that fighters can no longer hold on to belts if they switch weight divisions. Therefore, it's up for the taking between Volkanovski and Lopes.
That said, Volkanovski is a former UFC lightweight champion who held the belt for more than four years. However, he's lost his last two fights via knockout, so he's definitely going in the wrong direction. Yet, a win against Lopes would help him forget about his last two fights, including the 2024 bout with Topuria, in which he lost the title.
On the other hand, Lopes has added five consecutive wins. However, he hasn't fought since last September after a unanimous decision over Brian Ortega.
Ultimately, Volkanovski will need to prove that his career isn't over after he loses in two consecutive knockouts for the first time in his career.

First, don't forget that this will be a five-round fight. That likely favors Volkanovski.
However, that doesn't mean Lopes can't win the fight.
It's possible that Lopes can finish the fight in the first two rounds. However, if Lopes can't get the job done in the first two rounds, that's when Volkanovski can take advantage of the final three rounds. Many suggest that Lopes has a low gas tank and will be tested in the later rounds.
Volkanovski just has to get there.
He'll be able to use his footwork and be super tactical against Lopes. Volkanovski will need to escape all of Lopes's heavy hits and wear him down throughout the fight.
On the other hand, Lopes has to be confident heading into this fight. He's taking on a fighter who has been knocked out twice in the last two fights. Lopes will be hungry to connect early and usually has some vicious shots. Lopes is literally capable of knocking Volkanovski out. He's one of the hardest-hitting fighters the featherweight has.
Meanwhile, cardio is probably still an issue. But he lasted against Brian Ortega in his latest fight, and cardio didn't seem like as much of a problem.
If you give me Lopes at +125, I'll take it. We just have to hope he either finishes the first two rounds or earns the first two rounds and sneaks in a third round in rounds 3, 4, and 5.
