Super Bowl 2025

There’s history on the line at Caesars Superdome on Sunday night as the Philadelphia Eagles remain the only team standing between the Kansas City Chiefs and an incredible ‘three-peat.’

The Chiefs became just the eighth team to go ‘back-to-back’ (in the Super Bowl era) when defeating the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas last year and they will now attempt to become the first team to lift the Lombardi Trophy three times in a row, as none of the seven teams that went before them even made it back to the Super Bowl the following year.

Super Bowl Prediction

Whilst the weight of history may weigh heavy on many, Andy Reid’s men have seemingly taken each step in their stride this season and they arguably played their best football of the year against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game when scoring a season-high 32 points.

The Eagles also flexed their offensive muscle when dropping 55 points on the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game and they will, of course, be incredibly motivated to deny the Chiefs their ‘three-peat’ and avenge their loss in Super Bowl LVII.

Both teams boast equally impressive defenses and more than capable special teams units, meaning this game will likely be close and could easily boil down to one or two crucial plays. For this reason, I would side with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The back-to-back champions are by far-and-away the best team in the NFL when it comes to situational football and they’ve demonstrated it time-and-time-again this year.

Timely fourth down stops, blocked field goal attempts and walk-off field goals say more about coaching and execution than luck, as some would readily claim, and needless to say plays such as these could easily determine who will leave New Orleans victorious this weekend.

The Chiefs are currently on a record-setting streak of 17 consecutive wins in one possession games, which only further confirms how poised and prepared they are when the pressure is really on.

Part of that success can be attributed to how well they protect the football, having only turned the ball over once since week 11. Then you have to factor in the Andy Reid and Steve Spagnuolo effect, as it’s clearly advantageous having future Hall of Fame coaches calling plays.

Kansas City also seem to have a health advantage over the Eagles who have had multiple players listed as ‘limited’ in practice this week and some who have been affected by an illness that has reportedly been going around the locker room.

Obviously dealing with Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, Jalen Carter and surprise package linebacker Zack Baun will be no mean feat. You can get 50/1 for Barkley Most Rushing Yards as a new customer on Betfair.

However, the Chiefs overcame Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle, Nick Bosa and Fred Warner 12 months ago and it’s worth remembering that no group of players or indeed coaching staff have more experience on this stage.

Super Bowl MVP

Super Bowl MVP Odds

Three-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes is by far-and-away the most likely winner of this award should the Chiefs come out on top and understandably so given his quite frankly ridiculous statistics in the playoffs thus far.

The Texas Tech product boasts an overall record of 17 wins to just three losses with 6,138 passing yards, 50 total touchdowns and a passer rating of 105.8 across seven playoff campaigns, reaching the AFC Championship Game in every season as a starter and the Super Bowl on five occasions.

Although better known for his arm talent, the two-time regular season MVP once again demonstrated how dangerous he can be on the ground when rushing for 43 yards and two touchdowns against the Buffalo Bills two weeks ago and I’m sure the Eagles will be wise to his scrambling talents having fell victim to them in Super Bowl LVII, when not even a high ankle sprain could truly slow him down.

Patrick Mahomes accumulated 399 yards of total offence and two touchdowns against the San Francisco 49ers last year and the Chiefs could prove hard to beat if he can replicate that performance on Sunday night.

Super Bowl Touchdown Predictions

Both the Eagles and the Chiefs scored touchdowns on their opening possessions in Super Bowl LVII and both did so again in their respective conference championship games this year.

That said, the Eagles have a reputation for being fast starters. While the Chiefs often operate from a deficit after being slow out of the blocks. Therefore it may pay to side with an Eagles player to be the first touchdown scorer on Sunday.

A deep ball to AJ Brown or DeVonta Smith is entirely possible. As is a ‘brotherly shove’ for Jalen Hurts. However, Saquon Barkley already has five touchdowns in this playoff run and he could easily open the scoring in this one.

The former Giant has enjoyed a career year running behind one of the meanest offensive lines in football and he tallied the most rush attempts league wide with a total of 345.

Therefore it’s likely that he’ll get the first opportunity when the Eagles reach the red zone.

Rookie Xavier Worthy leads the Chiefs in total touchdowns and he will undoubtedly be a popular selection in the anytime touchdown scorer market.

However, the fastest man ever at the NFL Scouting Combine is priced up accordingly and it may be worth taking a chance on DeAndre Hopkins, who will make his first Super Bowl appearance following a Hall of Fame worthy 12-year career.

The wily veteran hasn’t seen much action in the playoffs but he demonstrated that the fire still burns brightly when catching eight of nine targets for 86 yards and two touchdowns against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week nine and he drew at least four targets in nine of his 10 regular season games with the Chiefs, with the only exception being three targets on his debut against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Eagles will have to pay plenty of attention to both Travis Kelce and the aforementioned Xavier Worthy in the red zone which could leave DeAndre Hopkins with some favourable matchups.
