The 97th Academy Awards are nearly here and to celebrate the Oscars, we've taken a look in the history books to see how successful our bettors have been at backing the biggest winners.
The Academy Awards, otherwise known as the Oscars, are the biggest honours of the season, with film stars clamouring for the gongs on a massive night in Hollywood.
Oscars is one of the most popular betting line of the year, with more bets being places on the awards in 2025 than the likes of Eurovision, Love Island and Royal Rumble for entertainment.
There are 23 awards up for grabs at the Oscars including the so-called 'big six' which features: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor.
These are the most popular betting markets within oddschecker and to celebrate the awards coming round again, we've taken a dive into who our bettors have gone for over the past five years.

Examining the data, our bettors have shown consistent success over the past five years when betting on the biggest honours at the Academy Awards.
In the past five Academy Awards, the oddschecker bettors have backed the right nominee 24 times out of 30 since 2020.
Last year, Oppenheimer won seven Oscars across the awards and OC bettors successfully backed the film for Best Picture.

Cillian Murphy, Christopher Nolan and Robert Downey Jr were also successfully backed by bettors as they won Best Actor, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor.
However, bettors didn't back Emma Stone, who won Best Actress for Poor Things. However, bettors sided with Lily Gladstone to take the award for her performance in Killers of the Flower Moon.
In 2023, bettors correctly predicted all six of the biggest awards as Everything Everywhere All At Once cleaned up.
2020 and 2021 Awards See Mixed Results
Bettors may have been off target slightly in 2020 and 2021 but they still backed over half of the big success to come through.
In 2020, bettors successfully called Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress. However, bettors backed World War I film 1917 over eventual Best Picture winner Parasite as well as backing Sam Mendes over Bong Joon-Ho.
Both times the Parasite director and film came out on top.

Elsewhere, in 2021, Frances McDormand was only the third most popular bet for Best Actress, behind Carey Mulligan for her display in Promising Young Woman and Viola Davis in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. But ultimately, McDormand won the gong for her performance in Nomadland.
Meanwhile, many bettors sided with the late Chadwick Boseman for his performance in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom over Anthony Hopkins, who ended up winning the award for Anthony in The Father.
Whichever way the Oscars go tonight, the statistics show that oddschecker bettors tend to be right with their bets!
Currently, Anora and The Brutalist are neck-and-neck for most popular bet on Best Picture, with Adrien Brody a clear favourite to win the Best Actor award.
