The bookmakers have opened their markets on who will win the 2028 US Election and replace Donald Trump in office.
The winner of this week's US Election, Donald Trump is preparing to select his top team ahead of his return to the White House in January 2025.
Trump secured a sweeping victory after winning five of the seven swing states. He is also ahead in the two states yet to declare - Nevada and Arizona.
He will become only the second president to serve two non-consecutive terms, nearly 130 years after Grover Cleveland left office for the second time in 1897.
However, US law will prevent Donald Trump from serving more than two terms. So, who is likeliest to win the 2028 Presidential Election?

Donald Trump's running mate JD Vance is the bookmakers' favourite to win the 2028 US Election at a best price of 7/2 on Betfred (implied 22.2% chance).
2028 US Election Winner | Best Odds | Bet With |
---|---|---|
JD Vance | 7/2 | Betfred |
Michelle Obama | 6/1 | Betfred |
Gavin Newsom | 7/1 | Paddy Power |
Ron DeSantis | 10/1 | Betfred |
The top four in the betting mixes two Republicans - Vance and Ron DeSantis (10/1) - with the likeliest Democratic party nominees for 2028, Michelle Obama (6/1) and Gavin Newsom (7/1 on Paddy Power).
Vance was confirmed as Trump's running mate in July (usurping long-term market leader Doug Burgum) despite being as long as 5/2 just five days before the announcement.
As governor in California (where Harris won the vote with 57%), Newsom has been known for his progressive policies on gun control and environmental issues.
Obama, meanwhile, was briefly touted as a 2024 Democrat candidate when her odds were slashed to 4/1 in February of this year, at which point she was given a much better chance of challenging Joe Biden than Harris herself.
