We reveal the favourite with the bookmakers to win the 2025 Scottish Grand National at Ayr this weekend.
Scotland's biggest raceday takes centre stage this weekend as Ayr hosts the Scottish Grand National (3:35 Saturday), seven days on from Nick Rockett's win in the UK equivalent.
33 runners have been left in contention at the confirmation stage (max field of 30) including 11 for British jumps trainers' championship chasing Willie Mullins, now the favourite to win the top trainer award having been £1.36 million behind Dan Skelton before Aintree.
There was no entry for 8/1 ante-post favourite Johnnywho or Quai De Bourbon, previously a 10/1 chance.
The Scottish Grand National is the headline event on an eight-race card also featuring the Scottish Champion Hurdle - County Hurdle victor Kargese tops the market (one of 40 entries for Mullins on the day at Ayr).
Who is the favourite to win the Scottish Grand National 2025?
High Class Hero is the bookmakers' favourite to win the 2025 Scottish Grand National at a best price of 14/1 on BetMGM. He's been backed in less than 4% of the ante-post bets through oddschecker in the last seven days. Of those still entered, Apple Away has the most support (8%).
BetMGM UK
The eight-year-old has an excellent strike rate for Willlie Mullins, with six wins and three seconds from 10 starts, as his only disappointment came in last year’s Albert Bartlett.
However, he did make too many mistakes when turned over at short odds last time out and he won’t afford to put in a similar round in this better race.
If he does jump well and stays, though, he would have a serious shout off this mark of 148, having finished a half-length second to Dancing City in a Grade 1 at the Punchestown Festival.
