ANALYSIS

Hurricanes vs. Capitals Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest NHL Odds for Thursday, April 10th

Two Eastern Conference teams already locked into the Stanley Cup Playoffs will meet at Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. tonight. It's the Washington Capitals hosting the Carolina Hurricanes.

Carolina just beat Washington 5-1 on April 2nd in Raleigh, where they have been dominant on home ice all season. Alex Ovechkin's record-setting goal scored against the Islanders overshadowed a disappointing 4-1 loss during the Capitals' last game played. Now, they have a chance to get revenge against the Hurricanes with five games left on their regular season schedule.

Hurricanes vs. Capitals PREDICTION

Oddsmakers are bullish on the Hurricanes to win tonight at -152 odds. Carolina's riding a three-game losing skid since their home win over the Capitals. This includes a 5-3 loss to Detroit, 5-1 loss to Boston, and a 3-0 shutout loss against Buffalo.

The Hurricanes have been notably worse on the road this season, entering tonight's game in D.C. with a 16-19-3 road record. The Capitals are 25-8-6 at home and have only lost at home once since March 1st. This was an 8-5 loss to the Sabres on March 30th.

Goaltenders in this game have both been shaky. Charlie Lindgren gets the call for Washington. He's allowed three or more goals in four straight starts, while giving up a pair to Carolina during a 5-1 loss. Despite being less than stellar in the net, Lindgren is 2-1 SU in his last three full starts for the Capitals, beating Boston and Chicago.

Frederik Andersen is Carolina's goaltender tonight in D.C. Andersen has an impressive 2.11 GA and a 13-6 record as a starter for the Hurricanes this season. However, he's fresh off of giving up five goals to the Boston Bruins on April 5th. He stopped 20 of 21 shots faced against the Capitals at home during Carolina's win on April 2nd.

I expect both teams to be eager to bounce back from blowout losses on the road during their last matchups. However, Washington's a much better team on home ice, just like Carolina, and this game is at Capital One Arena in D.C. tonight.

The Capitals could still win the Presidents Trophy and have the most points (107) in the Eastern Conference this season. Washington's got a ton of scoring depth behind Ovechkin and they'll lean on their rest advantage and home ice to beat Carolina for the second time, splitting the series at 2-2 this season.

Let's bet a unit on the home underdog to get revenge against a Hurricanes offense that struggles on the road.
