2025 NBA Play-In Tournament Odds: Which Teams Will Make The NBA Playoffs?

2025 NBA Play-In Tournament Odds: Which Teams Will Make The NBA Playoffs?
The NBA Play-In Tournament was implemented for the 2021 Playoffs. It helped expand the potential playoff field from eight teams to 10 teams.
Before the Play-In Tournament, the top eight seeds in the Eastern Conference and Western Conference would head to the playoffs. Now, only the top six teams in each conference are guaranteed a playoff spot.
The following four teams in the Eastern and Western Conferences must play in the NBA Play-In Tournament.
That said, teams ranked 7 or 8 in their conference must win one of two games to earn a playoff position. Yet, teams ranked 9 or 10 will need to win two games to earn a spot in the NBA Playoffs.
Ultimately, the 7-seed plays the 8-seed in each conference. The winner of that game will move on into the playoffs. However, the loser of that game will play the winner of the 9-10 game for the final eight seed in the conference.
Therefore, a No. 7 seed like the Warriors is more likely to make the playoffs than 10-seeded Dallas. The Mavericks would need to win their game against the Kings and then knock off the loser of the 7-8 seed to make the NBA Playoffs.

NBA Play-In Tournament Analysis: Eastern Conference
Atlanta Hawks To Not Make The Playoffs (+260)
I already have the Atlanta Hawks losing to the Orlando Magic in a 7-8 game. Therefore, the Magic would be stuck having to play the Bulls or Heat in the second round.
Meanwhile, I wouldn't be surprised if the Heat knocked off the Bulls in the first round and faced the Hawks in the final Eastern Conference Play-In Game.
After all, the Heat have already defeated the Hawks in each of their last two games against them. Miami earned a 122-112 win over the Hawks on March 27, after shooting 53.7% from the floor.
Miami Heat To Make The Playoffs (+360)
If you agree with this scenario, the Miami Heat at +360 would make the most sense. If the Heat beat the Bulls and the Hawks, they'd be the No. 8 seed in the playoffs.
You can also consider taking the Hawks to not make the playoffs at +260 if you think the Bulls will do what I suggest the Heat will do.

2025 NBA Play-In Tournament Odds: Western Conference
Team | Odds |
---|---|
Golden State Warriors | -4000 |
Memphis Grizzlies | -430 |
Sacramento Kings | +410 |
Dallas Mavericks | +820 |
NBA Play-In Tournament Analysis: Western Conference
Memphis Grizzlies To Miss The Playoffs (+310)
For one, I've got the Memphis Grizzlies losing to the Golden State Warriors on the road in the 7-8 game. With a loss, the Grizzlies would have to take on the Sacramento Kings or Dallas Mavericks in a do-or-die matchup.
Ultimately, the Kings will be home against the Mavericks in the 9-10 game and are the favorites to defeat Dallas in that first game. So it's likely the Kings will take on the Grizzlies in the final Western Conference Play-In Tournament game.
Sacramento Kings To Make The Playoffs (+410)
The Kings have defeated the Grizzlies in two consecutive games, including a 132-122 win on March 17. In that game, Desmond Bane scored 44 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Kings, who shot 52.3% from the field and 48.8% from downtown.
The Grizzlies even shot 21-for-21 from the foul line and still lost to a Kings team that missed 10 foul shots. It just shows you how much deeper the Kings are.
