This will be nice and brief. Spiers isn’t a guy we have bet for or against one time this season. With that being said, I have slowly noticed over time a pretty nice trend with him. He only has 14 career starts and has been solid this season with a 3.83 ERA, but all we care about today is him finding the zone.

Spiers walked 7 batters last year in 13 innings. This year, he has significantly improved his control and has now walked 9 batters in 47 innings. Spiers has walked one batter or less in 8 of his last 9 games. 5 of those 9 came as those a starter, and the others, he may have been in a limited role but still showed incredible accuracy and an ability to avoid allowing free bases.
He faces a Cubs team that is better at getting walks. Admittedly, this almost scared me off at first. Spiers may only have 14 career games, but two of those are against the Cubs. He threw over 90 pitches against them earlier in the year and only allowed one walk. The one other game against them was his first ever start as pro and he only walked two even with fighting those nerves. I think he walks one tonight and that’s that. He is coming off of an injury too and perhaps the Reds will be cautious with him. Either way, lets roll!!!
